Tour de Rock 2010 Stop at Bayside
by Karnal Cheema - Wednesday, 1 September 2010, 03:54 PM

We are so excited that this year we will be having the Cops for Cancer stop at Bayside this year!! We are gearing up for a fantastic fund raiser and short celebration for the visit which is part of the exhausting 1100 kilometre Tour de Rock ride up and down the island in support of pediatric cancer research and programs.

Many students have already begun their fund raising efforts and are planning to make contributions to this very worthwhile cause. Classes will be invited to challenge each other so that everyone has an opportunity to participate if they choose to.

A couple of special notes:

1) While head shaving has traditionally been a way to raise funds; both to show solidarity for those who must lose their hair due to treatment and to create wigs for some who need them, there is currently no hair needed for wigs. While we plan to have hair dressers on hand as part of the celebration, we will require specific parent permission for students wishing to have their heads shaved to raise funds.

Also, please note that students wanting to raise funds through head shaving will need to find their own sponsors since, with so many other things going on, the rest of the school population may be focused on other things (in the past some students have been disappointed that they did not receive more attention and funding from other students for shaving their heads).

2) Ms. Elm is planning to do a “Laps for Loonies” event which will require running many kilometres in one school day. Any students wishing to join in on this running event to raise funds should be doing some running and training now to be sure that they are up for it!! And to others – please think about putting a couple of loonies aside for this event! Thanks in advance!!

Parent Tea/Coffee First Day of School
by Anne Powell - Tuesday, 13 July 2010, 10:17 AM

School buses will be running the first day of school but if parents/guardians wish to wait for their child, pop in for a cup of coffee or tea with other parents.

The Bayside PAC (Parent Advisory Council) will provide coffee and tea in the Conference Room if parents choose to stay to meet with friends while their child is with their new class. The Conference Room is off the main hallway, across from the Library.

Grade 8's - Bayside Rowing (a possibility!!!)
by Kathryn Farr - Thursday, 8 July 2010, 01:54 PM

Bayside Rowing
Gr. 8 students - rowing may be a possibility this fall. It would start very quickly in September. There will be a swim test and the first day of practice would begin in early September. On September 2 we should know what the schedule times will look like. Students would row 3 times/week for 2 hours.

If you are interested, please let Mr. Bergeron know asap!
